NextStation Love

Well it's been a while since I last wrote in this blog. I noticed I have 17GB of stuff on SDF now. I was wondering what it was all about. Lots of source code for things it seems. I've been using my old NeXTstation Color at home after the main desktop blew it's power supply. It's a handly old machine. I got it to play some MP3 music I downloaded from YouTube. I love Lo-Fi study music from YouTube, those really long tracks they have there, and most of them let me download a copy. So I copied four tracks to my old NeXT and almost filled up the hard drive doing that. Then I installed Perl 5.6 on the machine thanks to the active NeXT community out there. Next I want to isntall openssh so I can securely log onto SDF and get more things done with that old machine acting as my terminal, all while playing my favorite late night study music. It's a sweet setup it really is.

Music

I just want to be the one you love. I've lost all ambition, for worldly acclaim.

by Boxout

I don't want to set the world on fire

I just want to start

A flame in your heart

I've lost all ambition for worldly acclaim

I just want to be the one you love

And with your admission

That you'd feel the same

I just want to be the one you love

I don't want to set the world on fire

I just want to start

A flame in your heart

I don't want to set the world on fire

I just want to start

A flame in your heart

But of course this is really a vintage song, not by Boxout, but by The Ink Spots. The title of the original song is "I Don't Want To Set the World On Fire".

NXSpice in Action!

I'm going over the code examples in my old book, Spice for Circuits and Electronics Using PSpice by Muhammad H. Rashid and I'm finally on the chapter that plots stuff. I'm comparing the results of the spice system we use at work, LTSpice, with vintage MacSpice and NXSpice on real vintage hardware and in a virtual machine. Some things work, some don't, and each application gives output in different formats, but I'm making progress. Check it out! NXSpice Analysis on NextStep 3.3

Musical Works in Progress

It's been a while since I posted to this ancient blog of mine. I'm trying to record my compositions again. They are not perfect, but they are original works by me.

It's been so long...

I have not been on this server all year I think. Today I was perusing my Microsoft OneNote pages and wondering how my old shell accounts are doing. I should check how they are all running and start doing stuff with them again. In other news I have upgraded nanoblogger to version 3.5-rc1. I think that might be the last version of this microblog software available. Maybe there is a version 4 but it's not easy for me to find in the nanoblogger website.

CLML Work on MetaArpa Again!

I finally got Common Lisp Machine Learning working on the MetaArpa server. I needed to update my local copy of SBCL from 1.3 to 1.5 to make this happen. It now compiled and ran the examples. This makes it the third server that I have CLML working on. I hope to really spend some time learning how to use the library, especially now that server resources seem so adequate for the task of exploring machine learning concepts.

Hello World

It's been over a year since I blogged on SDF. I have been doing so many things. So many things and I need to blog about all of it some day. But not today. I just updated my Loving LabView blog and my Writing blog. I tried to do some things on Polarhome.com, but I just don't have enough hours in the day for these fun things. I need to go back to work. I wanted to just post a listing of all the websites I have running right now. Make this the meta-blog of all blogs to help me navigate my own ramblings.

The Latest Projects

Well I'm trying to blog again. This time, thanks to my parents, I have an Alphasmart Dana portable word processor which I think is motivating me to write more often with the spare moments of my time. It's definitely fun to use, and I love how easy it is to sync with the PC and transfer what I have written to virtually any word processor on the planet. It's a smart design, durable, and easy to use.

I have 9 blogs going on right now. It's a crazy amount, and each is dedicated to a specific topic. Today I'm going to write in my computer hardware blog The Ghost In The Machine about what I've learned while using the Alphasmart Dana. That's my project for the lunch hour. Tomorrow I'll write in another blog about another thing.
